"Happenin' All Over Again" is a vocal written and produced by Stock Aitken & Waterman for American singer Lonnie Gordon'due south commencement anthology, If I Have to Stand Alone (1990). It was released every bit the album's 2nd single on Jan 15, 1990, and reached No. 4 on the United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland Singles Chart. The vocal mixed Stock Aitken & Waterman'south Europop sound with the blooming Italo house music which was becoming big in the United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland charts at the time. This 1990 version was never released in the United states of america.

The song had been originally written for Donna Summertime, but due to a falling-out with the producers, she never recorded it and instead was given to Gordon.[ii] The Stock, Aitken & Waterman version was mixed by Phil Harding.

A different version of the song was included on Gordon's 1993 album Bad Mood. This version was released as a U.S. single in 1993 and peaked at No. 98 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart,[3] and also striking No. 1 on the U.Southward. Dance chart.[4] In 1998, Gordon recorded the vocal for a second time and released it as a single.

Critical reception [edit]

Larry Flick from Billboard complimented the song, noting that Gordon's "fierce, sweet'northward'sour performance is diva-supreme."[5] David Giles from Music Week chosen it an "outstanding pop/disco record", adding that "information technology betrays a healthy obsession with Seventies dance music right downward to the very "showbizzy" chord changes."[6] The magazine also said information technology'southward "ane of the year's finest songs" and put it at number half dozen in their Top x list, "Option of the Twelvemonth - Mainstream Singles".[7] William Shaw from Smash Hits wrote that "it's one of those unstoppable thumping rhythms with a gloriously loud tune belted out over the top by the formidable Ms Gordon." He added that "this is the absolute stuff."[viii]

Impact and legacy [edit]

British magazine Classic Pop ranked information technology number 22 in their list of "Superlative 40 Stock Aitken Waterman songs" in 2021. They wrote, "On a song originally intended for Donna Summer, phasing arpeggios were the guild of the twenty-four hour period in the PWL studio for Happenin' All Once again, before long to get the sophomore single from Lonnie Gordon'due south debut anthology If I Have to Stand Alone. Mixed by Phil Harding, those Italo firm influences are axiomatic amidst the Euro dance-pop aura, leading to a well-earned Top five UK hit. Later on, in 1998, Coronation Street 's Tracy Shaw had a cleft at information technology and clawed her way to No.46 (best forgotten)."[9]

Music video [edit]

A music video was produced to promote the single. Information technology was after published on PWL's official YouTube channel in December 2016. The video has amassed more than than 782,000 views as of September 2021.[10]
