Uploading Map to Roll20 and Adding Dynamic Lighting

[Dynamic Lighting] Automatic or Uploaded Mapping

Is there a mode to basically upload a Dynamic Lighting Map? I'm just wondering if for instance, I can create a Path in something like GIMP, so drop information technology into a Dynamic Lighting Layer and have the Dynamic Lighting system recognise information technology, and then that I can use some of the more power graphical tools I have at my disposal.

Hey Andrew, while there'south no way to upload information technology, you may find this script helpful: https://wiki.roll20.net/Script:Dynamic_Light_Recorder Edit: realized you lot were asking about using ameliorate tools to draw and non a way to link paths to a map tile. For that, the start part even so stands tho.

Really.... Hither ya go: https://app.roll20.internet/forum/post/1337473/script-w... Does basically exactly what you're request for. You create a Path in Gimp, relieve it every bit an SVG, Parse it through a website (http://roll20api.net), then use the corresponding commands and script to draw all the lines for you lot. =D

gah, I need to revisit what I think the API is capable of.

Does basically exactly what you're asking for. Y'all create a Path in Gimp, save it as an SVG, Parse information technology through a website ( http://roll20api.cyberspace ), then utilise the corresponding commands and script to describe all the lines for y'all. =D How did I non already know almost this?! Had tried various things similar only since SVG isn't a supported format didn't think it would piece of work, was just missing the final piece of the puzzle it seems! Thank you :) Side note, does the created path human activity every bit 1 continuous line or a series of mini walls (in case you want to remove a portion of it). If the former then the path splitting script would exist an awesome accompaniment to the budding map maker who doesn't retrieve far enough alee ;) Also, that tutorial in the script thread is awesome!

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! The Aaron Strikes Again!!!!!!!

Having trouble with the dynamic lightining a new memeber to the pro furnishings, have line of sight boxes checked, take 140 degrees LoS set and 10ft for the test just trying to get information technology to work. I can see information technology lightining on my screen but my players simply meet black. tin someone help me delight ^.^

The nearly common thing to check is that the Token has the checkbox marked for Has Sight on the second tab. So make sure the token Represents a character that the Players control, or that the Token Itself has the players listed every bit controlling information technology. Finally, exist certain that the low-cal source (if it isn't the token in question) has All Players See Light checked.

The Aaron said: Really.... Here ya become: https://app.roll20.net/forum/mail/1337473/script-due west... Does basically exactly what you're asking for. You create a Path in Gimp, salvage it as an SVG, Parse it through a website ( http://roll20api.net ), then use the respective commands and script to draw all the lines for y'all. =D So to summarise for others... As long as yous take an SVG or similar 'vectorised' output, and then your script there volition just upload a suitable Dynamic Lighting Map? Cha-Ching! (Also, why past Isaac Newtons dessicated corpse is this Not on the Wiki for Dynamic Lighting?!?!?!?!?)

Actually, from another moment... I've been loading almost of my maps cutting into quarters (or sometimes 8ths) so I tin maintain prettiness... how does this deal with stitched images? Volition information technology take say, four images on the Map Layer and import a Dynamic Lighting that matches a "Full Paradigm"?

Merely to warn you, I've merely got the GIMP and haven't tested it with some other methods of SVG creation. SVGs from other sources might not work as expected. (I've yet got one Kevin sent me to wait at, when I have a second). With separate maps, you'd desire to split in The GIMP, then make the SVG. Information technology volition calibration the DL lines to the graphic when you run it, and then but place them where you want for reassembly, then select each and import them in turn.

And so a four-way split image, needs a four-way divide SVG also. As far as other SVGs, I'd propose looking at Inkscape, since information technology is the "Vector Gimp"

It's more a question of time and intent. If I wanted to create an SVG importer, that would exist a unlike script and wouldn't be a problem. Information technology would have different constraints than creating Dynamic Lighting lines. DL lines tin't be scaled or rotated or they don't work correctly. That'south why you take to select the token, so it knows where and what size to build them. At the time I wrote it, I didn't have an example of any other way people might want to create DL lines exterior of Roll20. Kevin sent me another method which I need to incorporate, just that'due south just 2 now. I can't run into anyone drawing their DL lines in Inkscape, but mayhap at that place'd be an advantage at that place? =D Let me know if yous have more questions.

Oh, the reason for suggesting Inkscape is because people might draw their maps in a Gratis Vector. I simply wasn't certain how 'universal' the SVG format might be. Inkscape would probably be very solid for the old "boxes on graph paper" maps. Only again, it was a thought.

Ah, in a couple weeks, PM me and I tin probably go a proof of concept for you lot. :)

I use GIMP. So it isn't a requirement, it was a tossed-out thought. If other people pester you about Inkscape and then worry nigh it. :P
